Individual Counseling

Sometimes it becomes more than we can handle alone. At Skylight, we strive to provide you the most comfortable and relaxed environment for your sessions. Many people struggle with something, unfortunately many people also do not seek the help to get through it.
Individual counseling is a collaborative effort between you and your clinician. It is tailored to address your unique needs and can cover a broad range of topics including:
- Emotional Difficulties: Such as anxiety, depression, stress, and grief.
- Life Transitions: Such as divorce, career changes, or dealing with the loss of a loved one.
- Personal Development: Improving self-esteem, enhancing personal skills, and achieving personal goals.
- Behavioral Issues: Addressing harmful habits or behaviors.
- Mental Health Disorders: Such as anxiety, depression, trauma, grief/loss, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), and more.
What are individual counseling sessions like?
Individual counseling sessions typically last about 45-55 minutes. During this time, we get to talk about you. We typically start by talking about areas of your life you want to improve, things you would like to see different, and how you want your overall sense of well-being to change. We work together to develop your list of goals or in other words your treatment plan. Your plan will guide our focus each session.
Ongoing sessions can occur weekly or biweekly, although the frequency can vary. During these sessions, clients typically explore their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Techniques used may include talk therapy, cognitive-behavioral techniques, mindfulness, and other therapeutic approaches tailored to meet your needs.
Occasionally, your clinician will review progress towards your set goals. This helps in adjusting the approach if needed and ensuring you are moving towards your desired outcomes. Our goal is for you to leave each session with a sense of accomplishment and motivation.
