Karen Scalio is a licensed clinical social worker who has been working in the Mental Health field since 2006, primarily with children, adolescents, and young adults. Karen has a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work and Psychology (Honors) and a Master’s Degree in Social Work and a Concentration in Mental Health from the University of Maryland, Baltimore School of Social Work. Karen has over 12 years of experience. Karen is working towards becoming a Registered Play Therapist and has 150 hours of Play Therapy Training.
Karen is passionate about helping young people thrive. She likes to challenge her clients to find their inner strength, as this creates a lasting healing effect. Karen engages her clients with creative interactions to reduce stress, improve self- esteem, challenge negative thoughts and emotions and help them develop effective coping skills. Karen uses a variety of integrated treatment approaches including play therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness, relaxation, and other creative therapy techniques. She builds a working relationship that best meets her client’s goals. Karen works with children as young as 3, teenagers and young adults.
